TUSCAN HOLIDAY
May—June, 2015
Friday, May 30—Depart the US on your flight to Rome, Italy.
Saturday, May 31—Arrive in Rome. We meet you at the airport for the private bus to Tuscany and our home for the week, the beautiful Villa Pipistrelli. This charming agritourismo is located in the Tuscan countryside near Sovicille and Siena. Welcome dinner at the villa.
Sunday, June 1—We’re off to Arezzo for shopping and browsing at the fantastic flea market. In the afternoon, there will be time for relaxing around the villa’s pool or walking the many trails surrounding the property. Dinner included.
Monday, June 2—After breakfast, board the minibus for the short journey to San Gimignano. This scenic small town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. We’ll visit some of the local artisans and antique dealers, plus there will be time to wander town at your leisure. Wine tasting class and dinner at the hotel.
Tuesday, June 3—We’ll journey to Florence for a day in this stunning renaissance city of museums, art, architecture, and shopping. The day includes a morning walking tour with a professional guide. The afternoon is free for you to shop, visit museums, or just wander and take in the beauty. Dinner included.
Wednesday, June 4—Today, we plan on relaxing and encouraging your hidden artist (after all, we are in Italy). Spend the morning at the estate immersed in a watercolor painting class. And, no worries about abilities. This is a fun class because there will be some Italian wines sampled while painting. Lunch at the villa. Late in the afternoon, we head into the kitchen for an authentic Italian cooking class followed by a supper of what we’ve prepared.
Thursday, June 5—We have a day in wonderful medieval Siena planned for you. In the morning, we browse the city’s antiques and consignment stores for undiscovered treasures to bring home. After lunch, we’ll visit a Contradiolo and learn about the city’s history and the famed palio horse race.
Friday, June 6—You can’t visit Tuscany and not learn about olives. This morning, we’ll take part in an olive oil tasting and learn about various types and the grades of oil. Of course, Pipistrelli has many groves on the property. Late this afternoon, we board the minibus for our farewell evening at a small restaurant. At this spot in the Tuscan hills, we will experience Italian food, wine, music, and friends. A memorable ending to our time together in Tuscany.
Saturday, June 7—Following an early breakfast, we board the mini bus for our journey to the Rome airport. Time for your flight back to the US, choose to stay in Rome, or journey somewhere else in Europe. Arrivederci!
